Finding Joy Amongst The Mundane

So, it’s February in the UK. We’ve made it through January and we’re plodding, coats wrapped round us, heads down into the wind with, fingers crossed, hints of Spring, not too far round the corner. I definitely get that’ caged animal in a zoo’ vibe this time of year. Pacing, watching and waiting, for something, anything, to happen. My main satisfaction this time of year is from decorating, diy and having a good old clear out. And that’s not good is it!?

Then I had a moment. And it got me thinking. About those things in life that really make you feel ‘alive’. That give you ‘heart’. With cheeks flushed, smiling and laughing, eyes crinkled and that absolute knowledge that you can take anything on.

You’ve probably all heard of ‘Saltburn’ by now. If you’re still thinking it’s a medical condition, I’d probably take a moment to update yourself on that. If you haven’t watched it – no spoilers here. Now, I know what you’re thinking but no … it’s not that kind of moment! I didn’t find it too weird or bizarre. As a Media Graduate I’ve definitely seen weirder. The narrative was ok, I loved the characters (Pam was a favourite) and at my age, I felt I’d probably seen some of the twists and turns before.

What I really loved was the 90’s cultural references (even the Cheeky Girls was a fond memory) and the music that brought it to life. Flash forward – me in my kitchen, emptying the dishwasher whilst dancing wildly to ‘Perfect (Exceeder)’ by Mason. (Nb. This was never going to be about ‘Murder on the Dancefloor’ in case you’re wondering.)

Of course, music is all powerful in changing or reflecting our mood. But there are other moments too. For me, it’s being near the sea. Watching my children sitting together, talking about their day.The joy of seeing the faces of old friends. I’m turning into a cliché now so I will stop …

How I imagine I look dancing in the kitchen…

‘Heart’ is one of the brand values here at The Breaker Collective, and one of the reasons I love working with Caroline & Gemma. Taking those moments and riding the wave as far as you possibly can. Sharing our experiences and connecting with each other ensures we are able to relive those moments and create new opportunities. Working, living and loving with joy and humour. And with The Breaker Collective, there is so much more to explore and opportunities to be had. I look forward to seeing you along the ride.
