You can sit with us

The 3rd of October was Mean Girls Day.

I REALLY loved this film when it first came out and will be watching it again as an ode to my younger self. It was also announced Mean Girls will hit the west end next year - shall Caroline and I go and see it, I wonder? What day is it? It's October 3rd! - Mean Girls musical to hit London next June

This did get me thinking about “meanness” - do girls/women need to be mean to get ahead?  How do we handle other girls that are mean? And does ‘meanness’ change as we navigate life from being a teenager at school (I need to learn more as I have a daughter who at 8 thinks she’s a very sassy 16 yo!) to being a woman at work and “grown up”? I fell into a google hole about bullying, how to manage this, and found this article which you may like to read:  Five Tips to Handle an Adult Female Bully | Banner Health

Aren’t we trying to teach our children not to be mean, to be kind, inclusive… we were taught that, right? Yet as adults, particularly as women, there’s still so much ‘meanness’ around. We often talk about the judgements we’ve experienced from other women. Feeling like you have to be fake, or somehow not yourself to fit in. One of the things that drew us to each other was being authentic, letting it all hang out. We don’t have it all together!! That’s why we want the Collective. We want a place that’s a no judgement zone, where you’re accepted and celebrated even. A place where you’ll always have a seat.

One of the most memorable quotes from the film which resonates with us, is…

Just know this, at Breaker you CAN break rules AND sit with us, anytime……we got you!!!

What have we been doing during our breaks from Breaker?

So so so excited that Sex Education is back with a new season on Netflix. How amazing is Gillian Anderson as Otis’ mum, Jean, who has an 8-week-old baby and is trying to go back to work? Sex Education Season 4

As I just finished reading Where’s My Happy Ending?  by Mother and Papa Pukka (read synopsis here: Mother and Papa Pukka Open Up About Long-Term Relationships ) they announced their divorce and how they have decided to “magpie” parent – Bird Nest Parenting . We are happily chewing the fat deciding whether this will or won’t work!?

Also, I know I’m super late to the party but…if you haven’t already you should check out the series, Bad Sisters. Obviously can’t condone what they do but these sisters are bad ass and I love their bond. Watch Bad Sisters .

What shows, books or topics have you been enjoying recently? Send us your recommendations so we can share with the rest of The Collective.
